Requiring surgery to make your nose tip smaller is now a thing of the past. Did you know that you can use just a few threads to make reduce the width of your nose and sharpen the tip? It’s best combined with filler augmentation for a beautiful small and sharp nose tip.

Korean Ultra V Threadlift is superb to tighten loose skin over the neck, jowls, nasolabial folds and Marionette lines, so as to achieve skin lifting and less drooping. It makes use of threads with tiny barbs that grab the skin and pull it back – like how we occasionally do to our own faces in the mirror and then wish that it would stay that way. Korean Ultra V threadlifting has been in the market for only a while but the constant upgrading of new techniques is fast making it the future of face lifting – it may very well replace surgical facelift in time to come! :)

What is the Korea Ultra V Threadlift?

There are two types of barbed threads which are available. These are:

• Bi-directional threads, with no anchoring points, inserted within a hollow needle and placed in such a manner that the thread cannot move either way because of the two-way direction of barbs fixing it nicely. Examples are seen in many of the cog threads used in Korean Ultra V Threadlift.
• Uni-directional barbed threads, which are anchored at a higher level fixation point. Examples are the Silhouette Soft® Threadlift.

There are many types of threads used in Korea Ultra V Threadlift, mainly cog threads and mono threads, but they are all made using polydioxanone (PDO), which is a dissolvable suture material commonly used in other surgical treatments. This material is very safe for use as threadlift as it has a long history of being widely used safely in many surgical and medical indications and, as a material, has hardly ever caused any side effect.

Cog threads are modified for use in threadlift by creating tiny barbs along the threads that act as cogs to grasp, lift and suspend a relaxed facial area. The barbs open like an umbrella to form a support structure that lifts the sagging tissue. These barbs under the skin also tend to gather tissues to fill out and lift the cheeks and sagging skin. Barbs on the thread grab hold of skin tissue. This creates tension in the thread, and the tension lifts the skin tissue. Collagen formation also occurs around the threads and their cogs or barbs, producing an increasing effect over time. This part of the treatment is used for lifting of saggy or droopy skin.

Mono threads are short, simple, smooth threads without barbs or cones that are placed multiply into the face in a mesh-like fashion for an overall skin tightening result. They work very well to reduce wrinkled skin by creating an overall skin tightening that comes after collagen starts forming around the threads 1 month after the treatment procedure. They complement the process of skin lifting that cog threads can give. Used on their own, they tighten the skin without significant lifting, therefore they are often used in combination with cog threads for a overall improvement in face rejuvenation and youth restoration.

The Korea Ultra V Threadlift can last for approximately 1 to 1.5 years, depending on your age, lifestyle, and facial movement patterns. As more collagen is produced over time, the results of the Korea Ultra V Threadlift will also gradually become better and peak at approximately 6-9 months after the procedure. An advantage of the dissolving threads is that additional threads can be inserted at a later date if further lift procedures are required.

Traditional face-lift surgeries are more invasive, and cause more trauma to the skin which requires more recovery time. As the dissolvable thread-lift procedure is less invasive, patients generally see less swelling, and are normally able to return to work and social settings almost immediately. In addition, as the dissolvable thread-lift procedure does not involve any cutting of the skin, only topical or local anesthetic is required. As the procedure is non-invasive, side effects are rare and you may experience some light bruising which will go away in a few days. Depending on the area that lifting is desired, the thread-lift procedure usually takes 30 minutes to an hour.

I also recommend it in combination with Thermage or Ultherapy treatment. :)

Look trendy with a brightly colored scarf this wintry season! Used an old jewellery ring instead of the usual scarf ring – puts expired fashion items to good use and blings up the look at the same time.

Actually, it’s just raining a lot here in Singapore these days. This small scarf is more than enough to keep warm short of breaking into perspiration. :D

We got a treat from Centurion to the Star Wars premiere on Thursday this week, held at Shaw Theatre premiere hall @ Nex. Yay! :D

Jon is an avid fan and knows the names of every species and machinery in Star Wars, but I made sure I also did my homework on my Star Wars the weekend before and revised Episode IV, V and VI. (Actually, I thought Episodes I, II and III were not bad too, despite certain opinion. I suppose it’s an acquired taste.)

At the end of the movie premiere, I was more puzzled than satisfied. :(

So who is Rey? She’s got the Force too, so she must either be Leia’s or Luke’s daughter. Or maybe Obi-Wan’s granddaughter??

What happened to Kylo Ren at the Jedi academy that so resolutely turned him to the dark side? I won’t let my kids watch this episode until they are 13 years old, though. The part where Kylo Ren ended Han Solo freaked me not a little.

Who could possibly take over Emperor Palpatine as Supreme Leader Snoke of the First Order?? Some absurd guesses suggest it may be Princess Leia in disguise. I’d faint if it were true — Snoke looked nothing like Princess Leia.

I’m sure every true fan of Star Wars will have watched the premiere by now (maybe twice or thrice) and have formed theories of every sort on what truly happened in the bigger plot. Looking forward to Episode VIII in 2017 for further revelation! And hopefully a few answers… :D

Year on year, I hope to stay just the way I am – my new year resolution, every year. :D

We had a short company retreat to Tokyo, Japan again this year. Weather was cool and nice in January, not much rainfall.

Minami brought us to (notably) one of the best sushi restaurants located at Shibuya in Tokyo: Sushi Zanmai. The owner of this restaurant chain is famous for personally picking out the freshest ingredients from the fish market – it is a skill and an art that decides whether the restaurant can serve the best sushi dishes. I had never been as adventurous with raw food as I was this time. LOL.

Besides walking the streets of Shibuya and enjoying the local cuisines, we visited an onsen at Gotemba, located next to Mount Fuji, courtesy of our dear friend and mentor, Dr. Akihiro Minami. Two thumbs up for his wonderful hospitality! :) Don’t ask me how we got there – we switched 3 trains and took a bus; I wouldn’t remember how to repeat the journey even if I visited again on my own.

What I cannot get over is – we had to get in stark naked in front of everyone! What larks. Of course, it was split into male and female baths. Those who visited the female bath that day were mostly obaasan though. Nonetheless, we had a fantastic view of Mount Fuji while relaxing in the indoors onsen. The water was too hot for me – I could only tolerate 10 minutes of it before running for cover. The advisory states that one shouldn’t be soaking for more than 20 minutes each time too.

They allow you to chill out in this room after you have had enough onsen – you can actually take a nap here until your time is up. Minami napped until we almost missed the last bus back. :D

Another highlight: we ate ramen at Ichiran – according to Lynette, the best ramen in Tokyo. :D It was very yummy indeed, but the dinner queue is long and you ate in solitude in single cubicles, which was strange… ><

We hope to go London or New Zealand next year, God willing! Looking forward to the next one indeed. :)

Over the recent chinese new year holidays, we took a trip to Seoul for a few days. It was a short stint but great, nonetheless! :)

We wanted to try the new premium economy that was recently launched by Singapore Airlines SQ15 and SQ16. The seats were swanky and new and comfortable enough – a marked difference from the usual packed-like-sardines economy class seating, yet not as pricey as business class. I suppose it gives good bang for buck. :)

Many of us travel to South Korea these days, what with it being the plastic surgery capital of Asia. So what can we do during our stay there?

NAMSAN

Namsan is located in the heart of Seoul and was originally known as Ingyeongsan. It was renamed as Namsan because the mountain looked like it stood tall towards the south when it was seen from Gyeongbokgung Palace.

We took a cable car ride up the mountain and trekked down the cut stone steps after that. Took 10 minutes to ride up and 30 minutes to walk down.

Located at the peak of Namsan mountain is the Seoul Tower. You could visit the top of the tower to see the view of almost the entire Seoul city, since Namsan is in a rather central location. We didn’t go up though, since the view from beneath the tower was breathtaking enough already.

A recent attraction for courting couples is “Locks of Love”, where thousands of padlocks attached to the fence by romantic Seoulites symbolizing their undying affection. Two TV stars, singer Alex and model Sinae, were seen dating there in the MBC reality program “We’ve Got Married”, making this practice of love declaration popular again.

GYEONGBOKGUNG PALACE

Since it was located nearby – a short 10 min taxi ride away, we had to drop by Gyeongbokgung Palace, which was erected at the foot of Bugaksan after King Yaeje Lee.

You could see many young girls walking the palace grounds in traditional Korean costumes, even when there is no ongoing event. They were actively taking photos and selfies, maybe for their blogs. ;) I wish I could wear one of those colorful costumes too.

MYEONG DONG

We stayed at the Westin Chosun hotel – 5 minute walk away from Myeong Dong street. We love the street food there and visited every night for steamed egg buns, fried tornado potato, grilled oysters on shell, grilled lobster at SGD 10, spicy rice cake and Jeju strawberries. It is a must-go for foodies. :) Occasionally, they also sell pumpkin soup which is apparently great for reducing post surgery swelling.

DONGDAEMUN

Shopping haven for shopaholics, no doubt. Apparently wholesale shops, but not so “wholesale” prices actually. Yet, the variety of men’s and women’s clothes, bags and accessories will blow your mind. This is my favorite shopping place in all the world to get all my clothes and accessories to last me the year. :D

There is an art museum located at Dongdaemun that lights up prettily at night. It is built upon an ancient monument and my son thinks the exterior looks like a spaceship.

My 2 most favorite haunts are Migliore and Maxtyle. I visit them every time I visit Seoul. But do note they are wholesale centers, so there is no food or beverage available for tired shoppers. Forget about the shopping mall Doota – they seem to take their goods from one of the shop centres next door to them and then jack up the prices to standard shopping mall prices, so you pay twice what you would just across the street. They do have some F&B though, for the weary shopper to rest their feet. :)

Most South Koreans seem capable of speaking some basic English (more than one would expect) and very fluent in Mandarin too, so there is absolutely no problem in getting around. Very friendly people too.

My real purpose in visiting Seoul this time:

To get HIKO nose threads from my supplier in South Korea! These HIKO nose threads were recommended to me by South Korean plastic surgeon Dr Rhee Sang June. They have proven to be very good in quality and results but are not available in Singapore, so I went to get them personally this time. :) Definitely worth the trip to get them even if I were not thoroughly enjoying myself already!

We give a brief description below on how the procedure is easily executed:

Step 1: the ideal point for placing the Nose Threadlift is located and marked. This is vital for placement of the Nose Threadlift for best results.

Step 2: local anesthesia quickly numbs the entire nose area in preparation for the Nose Threadlift treatment.

Step 3: a small injection is placed at the correct point on the nose before insertion of the Nose Threadlift.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How long does the Nose Threadlift last?

The results of the Nose Threadlift generally last from 1 to 2 years.

It should be noted that there is a partial effect that is semi-permanent. This is because the Nose Threadlift creates new collagen within the skin and tightens the skin as time goes by.

For best results, 1 repeat treatment at 6 to 12 months is highly recommended.

As to the number of threads required for optimal results, it depends greatly from one individual to the other. The optimal number of threads will be advised by our doctors after consultation.

What are the possible side effects of Nose Threadlift?

There is very little side effect and almost no downtime at all, since it only involves a single injection site at the tip of the nose.

As compared to Nose Filler, migration or broadening is far less common and risk of lumps almost nil. Some discomfort is expected for the following week, just like in a Nose Filler, but it mostly resolves within a fortnight.

The risk for infection with any implantation procedure is present, albeit low. Care with sterility during the procedure is of utmost importance to avoid infection, as well as after care – please do not apply makeup or facial products on the treated area until at least 3 hours after the procedure.

Does the type of Nose Threads used matter?

It certainly does!

Apart from the doctor’s skill, the results of a Nose Threadlift procedure is also much dependent on the type of threads used. Tiffiny Yang Aesthetics & Surgery is probably the only clinic in Singapore that exclusively carries the most suitable HIKO screw cog nose threads from Korea.

A lot of threads currently in use today are short and smooth mono threads, which gives no or minimal results because they are too thin and smooth and therefore are unable to provide sufficient scaffolding to lift the nose sufficiently. On the other hand, threads that are too thick are more likely to cause scarring.

On the other hand, the HIKO screw cog nose threads used exclusively at Tiffiny Yang Aesthetics are different from usual threads because the HIKO screw cog nose threads are peppered with cogs, maximizing the scaffolding, lifting, and contouring effect of the nose. You will have to try the HIKO screw cog nose threads by Tiffiny Yang Aesthetics to see the difference. Why do some Nose Threadlift not give sufficient result?

Short thin threads do not give a good result, if at all, and you may very well be wasting your time and money. Threads that are too thick can leave a scar at the injection point. Threads with the correct type of cog gives the best lift and effect for the nose bridge and tip. One must choose wisely. ;)

If you have attempted Nose Threadlift before but does not think the results good at all, it is likely due to any of the below:

1. Wrong type of Nose Threads used
2. Wrong number of Nose Threads placed
3. Wrong technique of placement of Nose Threads to maximize its potential lifting effect.

Was back in Hong Kong again in February 2016 for another threadlift session by AAAM. I was there on Dr Rhee’s invitation, as his assistant trainer to the delegates! It was nice helping the delegates get the hang of it.

Felt so at home, that I almost didn’t wanna go home. :D Also as part of Centurion membership benefits, the hotel gave HKD 2340 credit to spend on anything we wanted in the hotel, so we splurged it on the Spring Moon Restaurant, Peninsula Hotel and I went for a Balinese massage in the hotel spa.

Peninsula hotel spa… Balinese massage with a view of the harbor; served with free flow hot ginger & lemongrass tea. There were cool and heated jacuzzis, 3 saunas, resting rooms with a view and lots of Evian water bottles.

Note: Only the yummiest dishes at Spring Moon restaurant, Peninsula Hotel are recommended below.

Star dish: steamed Sicilian shrimp and minced pork dumpling

Star dish: Deluxe dumpling with abalone in supreme soup. This is actually my favourite! If you break the dumpling within the soup, the contents flow out to mix with the broth and make each mouthful rich and savoury.

Wagyu beef stir fried in black pepper sauce and red capsicum with crunchy rice pops. Surprisingly yummy with a very interesting improved taste of the usual black pepper beef.

The next night, we visited T’ang Court at Langham Hotel, Hong Kong. It was just upgraded from 2-star to 3-star Michelin this year and the place was since fully booked. We used to be able to get a reservation easily until this time – we had to twist their arm to give us a table and we could not be on waiting list since our visit was so short.

Executive Chef Kwong’s recommendation: Steamed egg white with Alaskan crab meat, bird’s nest and minced Yunnam ham.

The egg white is hidden below the sweet broth that covers it and in the centre, a heap of bird’s nest topped with juicy crab meat. Heavenly taste. I strongly recommend you to try this one.

Baked seafood rice with cream sauce in crab shell… yup, fried rice in a whole crab shell.

T’ang Court’s Award Winning Dishes: Stir fried fresh lobster with spring onions, red onions and shallots.

This one takes the cake, surely. It won the Best of the Best Culinary Award – Gold with Distinction Award at Bonnaire, Variance Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Brut, Champagne, France. When the dish was served, we were immediately wow-ed by the fragrance wafting from it and still smelt of it even after we have left the restaurant. The taste of it was no less impressive. That is, if you are not offended by the copious amounts of Chinese parsley in this dish, like Jonathan was. :D To me, it is certainly the most memorable dish I have ever laid tongue on.

T’ang Court’s Award Winning Dishes: Sauteed prawns and crab roe accompanied with golden-fried pork and crab meat puffs.

Even though this one was also the other award winning dish, it seemed only so-so. Not much to comment about it. Heh…

Overall, we were very impressed with the dining experience at T’ang Court this visit. If you are visiting T’ang Court in the next few months, the award winning stir-fried lobster dish and the egg white with crab meat & bird’s nest dish are must-try! They change the menu all the time, so be sure to catch it before it goes. :)

The chart-topping singer-songwriter is accused of “verbatim, note-for-note copying” for his number one ballad “Photograph”, which Cardle’s songwriters Martin Harrington and Thomas Leonard say steals from their track “Amazing”.”

Apparently, the original song didn’t make it past 50,000 sales but this un-original version made the UK billboards for consecutive weeks. Well, time and chance happens to us all, doesn’t it? It’s just like how Friendster saw a tragic demise, whereas Facebook made billions for its maker – I mean, aren’t they almost the same thing??😀

The MTV so touched me because it reminds me so much of my own dear babes. The song’s strains echoes my heart one day when they are all grown, become their own man and strike out on their own – even then, I probably won’t be able to let them go. Hakkasan is a Michelin star award winning restaurant offering Cantonese cuisine, with the brand initially debuting as an upscale, modern Chinese restaurant in the West End of London, England, at Hanway Place. We decided to visit when we were in London, June 2016!

The maitre’d was very friendly, even took note of the special requests we placed in when Centurion called to reserve a place for us. ^_^”’

Being our first time, we tried the signature menu which serves most of their famous dishes. I must say the signature dishes are worthy of their reputation indeed.

Rather common appetiser but yummy nonetheless.

Their famous dim sum platter! However, I found it to be only so-so. I think the dim sum you can find in Hong Kong is definitely more interesting.

Roast chicken in satay sauce

spicy prawn with lily bulb and almond… it is essentially curry prawn, but very non spicy to suit the local taste.

Both of the above: five star in taste and presentation too! I will rate these 2 dishes my top favourites that night, possibly because they are more akin to Nanyang dishes that remind me of home. Others may beg to differ if they come from other cultures.😀

pan fried silver cod

stir fry black pepper rib eye beef with merlot; this is a popular dish in Chinese restaurants nowadays.

There are food trends that waxes and wanes. This style of stir fry black pepper beef (with the rice cone) is trending in Hong Kong too, right now. This is currently one of my favourites — I need to consume more beef to replenish my iron stores after my pregnancies.😀

Of course, standard seasonal vegetables and my son’s favourite egg fried rice. We also added the truffle caviar home made jade tofu, with morel, bamboo pith and ginkgo nut… but it wasn’t that yummy and we regretted this choice.

I’m also rather surprised how easy it was to find egg fried rice in London – it was available almost everywhere.😀

Desserts to finish the meal: bitter chocolate cake with raspberry ice cream & lemon meringue with vanilla ice cream! Exquisite taste and maximum freshness. Six star!! Sweet finish to an enjoyable dinner.

My advice: stick to the signature recommendations and you can’t go wrong.

By the way, Singapore just launched the Michelin guide for local restaurants! The only 3 star restaurant: Joel Robuchon, French contemporary cuisine. Gotta try it soon!😀

I have long observed my clientele toting their legendary Birkins and equally elusive Kellys to draw a certain conclusion: you are either a Birkin type of lady or a Kelly type of babe; there is seldom much overlap.

Insofar as I have noted of my patient populace, a lady who carries the charming Birkin almost always seem to carry only Birkins during her visits and the babe who slings the pretty Kelly almost always bring only Kellys whenever we meet. Perhaps they have one (or a few) of the sister bag sitting well-preserved in their walk-in wardrobe back home, but the default preference is always to bring the type that she has a penchant for.

According to what I have researched (by reading online, really), the Birkin was created to be an elegant weekend bag, great for its convenience and ease of use, while at the same time looking fine and classy. The Kelly is supposedly suitable for business luncheons, formal meetings and events, giving a flair of sophistication and an awfully polished look. Both are equally painful to obtain from the actual Hermes store, which has consequently created a cult following of the high and mighty Birkin/Kelly bags.

So I have been wondering: what makes one a Birkin lady or a Kelly babe?

It is possible that those who prefer the Birkin tend to be more mature, experienced with the ways of the world, enjoy the practical and the tasteful at the same time. And those who lean towards the Kelly may tend to be more girly, perhaps even princessy, and prioritise elegance and a pristine image above convenience or practicality. This is an observation, at least, in my local context.

That’s not to say, of course, that the Birkin lady cannot also occasionally be a Kelly babe and vice versa. You may observe that even if the Birkin lady happens to use a Kelly, she wears it like a Birkin. Nonetheless, there are hordes of people who own hordes of both and do not care less which they use – this post is not to decide that for you.

No question what type I probably am.

When life gets a little mundane, get out to breathe some salty sea air~

Great start to a relaxing time: grab a champagne!

What we came to admire: the Overseas collection by Vacheron Constantin. I thought the diamond studded ladies’ watch was cute. Jon mused at the Overseas perpetual calendar in white gold – a whooping SGD 140,000.

They say Vacheron Constantin is one of the holy trio of watch brands including Patek Philippe and Jaeger LeCoultre, so certainly worth the second look, but the resale value is not as high. (Too bad I ain’t too much of a watch connoisseur either!)

My only gripe: like all French cocktail parties, there were only canapes and small bites. Left me as hungry as a bear at disembarking.
